Instagram Comment Editing Feature Has Arrived!

Meta has announced a new update that will directly impact community management dynamics on the Instagram platform. With this development, shared comments can now be revised without needing to be completely deleted and rewritten.

The core technical details and strategic implications of this feature, which provides operational flexibility especially for brands in their target audience communication, are as follows:

15-Minute Time Frame: Users and brand accounts will be able to edit their comments within the first 15 minutes after publishing. There is no limitation on the number of edits within this period. This allows for quick action against typing errors during moderation processes.

  • Text-Only Update: The important point to note in this update is that editing rights are limited to text only. In comments where visuals and text are used together, the visual material will remain fixed, while only the written content can be changed.
  • Edited Label and Reputation Management: In modified comments, an “Edited” label will be displayed to ensure transparency in communication. However, previous versions of the comment and its revision history will not be visible to other users under any circumstances.

Meta, in parallel with the new update, is now applying a more protective and age-appropriate filtering process to content shown to teenagers, inspired by film rating standards of 13+ and above.

Posts containing profanity, risky depictions, or content encouraging harmful habits are now hidden by default by the algorithm, while these accounts are also prevented from following inappropriate profiles, receiving DMs from such profiles, or accessing sensitive content in search results.
